THE BUDDY INITIATIVE

THE BUDDY INITIATIVE

Buddy Initiative volunteers commit to calling at least two recipients per week and devote time to them by listening, helping and supporting them as a friend. The aim is for the outreach calls to continue throughout the pandemic and beyond so that no person feels alone or forgotten. *To be a Buddy, you must undergo a Police Check.

Cook Offs

COOK OFFS

COOK OFFS

This includes sorting, preparing & cooking produce, ready to be packed as meals and delivered to our recipients. These Cook-Offs can include tasks anywhere from sorting, peeling and chopping vegetables, to wrapping cake, cutting fruit or washing dishes, there is something for everyone during these sessions!

Deliveries

DELIVERIES

DELIVERIES

Our volunteers ensure each visit and meal delivered is accompanied by a chat, moral support, encouragement, referrals to support systems where needed, and inquiries about their health and wellbeing. This short time spent with our recipients, allows them to feel cared for and not forgotten. * To deliver, you must have a current driver’s license, your own car, and undergo a Police Check.

CHEF ASSISTANTS

CHEF ASSISTANTS

We are looking for volunteers who want to help our Chef in the kitchen, whilst learning more about food and kitchen processes. Chef Assistants help our Chef in preparing nutritious, tasty and visually appealing meals for our recipients. They assist with food preparation, seasoning and marinating produce, being responsible for the ovens, assisting volunteers and other kitchen tasks. This role works closely with the session leaders and Chef and we ask for a weekly or fortnightly commitment, for at least a 6 month period.

PACKING

PACKING

We have various packing sessions throughout the week, whether it’s packing our pantry boxes with dry goods, packing the shabbat packs with fresh fruit, vegetables and sweet treats, packing freshly made meals into individual or family style containers, or packing soup and compote into individual containers, there is always a lot of packing to be done!

Team Leaders

TEAM LEADERS

TEAM LEADERS

Our Session Leader Super Stars run our various sessions at The Hub throughout the week. They are the boss, the head honcho, the person with all the answers, and they are critical to the smooth running of our services! We ask for a weekly or fortnightly commitment for at least a 6 month period, with all training provided. If you would like to gain experience leading a team, you’re good at solving problems on the fly, you like to be around people and juggle competing priorities, then this could be the perfect voluntary role for you!
